Mirik students to present "Khukuri Dance" at Republic Day event in Kolkata
YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, JANUARY 25, 2024 : The Scarlet Minibet Pipe Band of Thurbo Higher Secondary School, Mirik, will represent the Darjeeling district and perform the famous ‘Khukuri Dance’ at the Republic Day celebrations in Kolkata.
A team of trainers along with the band has been staying in Kolkata for the past few days. The team has also done three rehearsals which are going on well, according to main coach Nirmal Singar.
In 2023, under the leadership of Singar, the school participated in the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi. Twenty girl students of the school have reached Kolkata under the leadership of Assistant Teacher Abinash Pradhan to participate in the ‘Khukuri Dance.”
By participating in the ‘Khukuri Dance,’ the self-confidence of the teenage girls would increase, Singar said on Friday. This would benefit the entire Gorkha community in the future.
