Limbu – Tamang communities want fivereserved seats from the 32 in Sikkim assembly
LTVC has demanded that the ruling party pass a fresh proposal for Limbu-Tamang seat reservation in the Assembly
PRAKASH ADHIKARI, EOI, GANGTOK, 16 JANUARY 2024 : The Limbu-Tamang Voluntary Committee (LTVC) has appealed to the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha government for acting in pursuance of their statutory and constitutional powers which contains special provisions for Sikkim and begins with a non-obstante clause for seeking Presidential Ordinance, for reserving five seats from the seventeen (17) unreserved seats in Sikkim State Legislative Assembly for the people of Limbu-Tamang Community from the existing 32 members in the Sikkim Assembly.
For this, delimitation is not required in the state before the 2024 general election. LTVC has demanded that the ruling party pass a fresh proposal for Limbu-Tamang seat reservation in the Assembly, as the matter is no more sub-judice.
"The apparent lack of sincerity of the state government towards the LT communities is becoming clear for all to see. Their confusions and misinterpretations continue to harm the LT communities, who are feeling manipulated and betrayed by the SKM,", LTVC said in a Press statement on Tuesday.
"Time has come for the State Government of Sikkim to pass fresh proposal for Limbu-Tamang seat reservation in Sikkim State Legislative Assembly. SKM should not deliberately forget their pre-poll promise to LT communities."
