Limbu, Tamang communities in Kalimpong demand seat reservation in 2024 LS poll


YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JANUARY 3, 2024 : A large number of people belonging to the Tamang, Limbu, Lepcha, Bhutia and Sherpa communities on Wednesday carried out a postering campaign in Kalimpong town, demanding that the Centre should grant constitutional rights to the Limbu and Tamang communities as soon as possible in accordance with Article 330 and 332 of the Constitution. 
They expressed their gratitude to the Supreme Court and demanded that the Centre should show seriousness in this matter. 
Last November, the apex court gave suggestions and instructions to the Centre to reserve seats for the two communities of Limbu, Tamang communities in Kalimpong demand seat reservation in 2024 LS poll Limbu and Tamang in West Bengal and Sikkim to ensure their constitutional rights in the respective legislative assemblies and in Lok Sabha. 
In consultation with the Election Commission, the Delimitation Commission has been formed and asked to submit a report to the Supreme Court regarding this. 
The postering was carried out as there was some delay in this matter on the end of the Centre. The Limbu and Tamang communities should get their constitutional rights in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Deshbhakta Subba said.
