Let BJP do something in a month, or we will find an alternative’ : Ajay Edwards

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, 12 JANUARY 2023 : “BJP has not done anything for the Gorkhas for 14 years and 11 months, so now we have to find an alternative,” Hamro party president Ajay Edwards said on Friday while talking to reporters. 

He also hinted that he would support the Congress in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said that since Congress was the second largest party in the country, he would now stand with Congress. 

However, he said that if the BJP did something for the Gorkhas in a month, the Hamro Party would stand with the BJP. 

“If the BJP fulfils even one of the three issues mentioned in its election manifesto, we will blindly support the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.” 

Edwards said: “Hamro party is in favour of building good relations with the Congress. If we stand with the Congress during the difficult time of the Congress, tomorrow in its happier days the Congress will remember us.” 

He said if the BJP did not fulfill the commitments mentioned in its election manifesto the hill people would be forced to find an alternative. 

If in Manipur the BJP was planning to review the tribal status of the Kuki community, there was little chance that 11 left-out communities in the Darjeeling hills would be granted tribal status.
