TT Corresponden, Siliguri, 18.01.24 : .The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) will organise an under-15 boys’ football tournament at Mungpoo in Darjeeling district.
The event, organisers said, will be held at the Somle United Boys Club ground of the hilly hamlet from the first week of February.
“The main aim of organising the tournament is to provide a platform for younger players of the hills and encourage them to play soccer. I appeal to the clubs and organisations to join the event because it will provide a platform to build their (football) career. We will also organise a similar tournament for Under-13 to encourage budding talents of the hills,” said Anit Thapa, the chief executive of the GTA on Wednesday.
The hill administrative body will also give prize money for the champion and runner-up teams of the tourney. The winning team will get Rs 1 lakh and the runner-up Rs 50,000 as cash award, he said.
The money, he added, would help these clubs give soccer kits to players and development of football infrastructure.
