Film on Putali Tamang, freedom fighter :"1945, Behind the Mountains" realising on 26th Jan

Trinamool students' wing leader to make acting debut in film on freedom struggle

The screenplay of the film is based on the life of freedom fighter Putali  Devi Tamang which is being played by Rajanya Haldar. The film also features Riya Bhujel and noted journalist Rhitobrata Bhattacharya.

Suryagni Roy, India Today, Kolkata:  Trinamool Congress students' wing leader Rajanya Haldar is all set to make her acting debut in the Bengali film industry with the upcoming film '1945: Behind the Mountains'.

The film, directed by Prantik Chakraborty, is based against the backdrop of the Indian freedom struggle in a village nestled in the Darjeeling hills. It emphasises the significant contributions made by the people of the hills to India's freedom movement.

The film also casts Riya Bhujel and noted journalist Rhitobrata Bhattacharya. Haldar will play the role of real-life freedom fighter Putali Tamang, which is the screenplay of the film.

Putali Tamang, a revered figure from the hills of Darjeeling, played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Congress Branch in Kurseong. Her commitment to social upliftment led her to form a Harijan Samaj, encouraging Dalit education, and she even founded a school to further this mission.

The movie is scheduled for release on January 26, Republic Day.

This year, on July 21, Haldar caught public attention with her stirring speech at Trinamool Congress's Shaheed Diwas, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the chief speaker.

Her compelling delivery not only captivated the audience but also paved the way for her to take on organisational responsibilities at Jadavpur University's Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit.
