Centre has positive attitude to Darjeeling issues, assures hill BJP chief

The issue of tribal status for 11 left-out communities was discussed at the meeting as well as a permanent political solution.
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, 17 JANUARY 2024 : Following his return to Kalimpong after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Darjeeling District BJP President Kalyan Dewan said on Wednesday the Centre had a positive attitude towards the issue of Darjeeling hills.
He said that the meeting was fruitful. The issue of tribal status for 11 left-out communities was discussed at the meeting as well as a permanent political solution.
The Home Minister appreciated that the hill people expected to get something before the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
He said the issue of tribal status for 11 left-out communities had not yet been resolved as the West Bengal Government had not cooperated with the Centre.
People should not have a negative attitude towards the Centre. Under the leadership of Darjeeling M.P. Raju Bista work was going on relating to the issues of Darjeeling.
Resolving the issues would need patience as the State Government and the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration were putting up obstacles.
