NH 10 reopened to heavy trafficat night, with restrictions

Yowan Mothay, Kalimpong, December 11, 2023 : National Highway-10 has been reopened for buses as well as goods vehicles carrying less than six tones of load and also for tankers carrying up to nine kilolitres.
Kalimpong District Magistrate Balasubramaniam T issued an order to this effect on Monday. Other big tankers and heavy vehicles would be allowed to pass through Melli Bridge, Chitrey, Kalimpong Town, Alagara, Lava, Gorubathan and Silguri from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., it as mentioned in the order.
It was also mentioned that some big tankers and heavy vehicles could also pass through Reshi, Pedong, Alagara, Lava Gorubathan and Siliguri.
According to Balasubramaniam, the efforts were on at war- footing to open National Highway-10 to traffic of all kinds.
The work on widening of the road was still going on in some places.
An inspection team of PWD officials, transport officers and police officers visited the highway a few days ago to take stock of the technical issues for the early opening of the highway. The District Magistrate informed that the highway was opened on the basis of the report that they had collected during the visit.
After the disaster on October 4, many places on the highway the carriageway is still narrow. Due to construction work, vehicles are moving along a single lane in some places. These areas are: from 26.2 miles to 26.4 km of Likhuvir, near Melli Bazar 33.65 km, Antare Jhoda (34.4 km), Balukhola (35.2 km), Eight Miles (39.9 km).
It was mentioned in the order that it would be necessary to keep in mind the movement of one-way vehicles in these places.
