Mamata on week-long tour of the hills To attend nephew’s marriage, address rallies

EOI, DARJEELING, DEC 6, 2023 : Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived in the Hills on Wednesday to kick start her north Bengal tour and attend a family function in Kurseong. The Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha president Anit Thapa along with senior TMC leaders and supporters organized a grand welcome for the TMC chairperson in Kurseong town. 

The BGPM party that helms the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration is a political ally of the TMC. Although the official itinerary is not known as yet, sources said the CM in her north Bengal visit is expected to tour the districts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar during her week- long stay. In Kurseong, the CM will attend the wedding of her nephew Avesh Banerjee with Deepa Chettri of Kurseong on December 7. 

Senior leaders of her party like the TMC national general secretary and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee along with other family members have already arrived in Kurseong, to attend the wedding. 

Speaking about the chief minister's visit the BGPM president said, “In the hills we have made it a culture to welcome and receive the Bengal CM. We have to keep good relationship with her which will result in the development of the hills.” 

On December 8, Banerjee is scheduled to attend a government distribution programme at the Monteviot Ground in Kurseong. She is expected to hand over various government benefits to the public from this programme. 

The CM could also make some important announcements concerning the tea garden workers. “We have submitted various proposals to the CM and we are expecting that she will make some announcements during the program. 

There is a government programme on December 8 and she will address the public and also distribute government benefits to people,” said Thapa. 

Thapa also said that since TMC was an alliance party, how they will go ahead in the 2024 polls will be decided after a discussion in the coming days. The Bengal CM is likely to depart for Alipurduar on December 9 where she could attend an administrative meeting and distribution programme in Alipurduar on December 10 at the parade ground. 

On December 11, the Chief Minister is scheduled to arrive at Banarhat in Jalpaiguri district where she will be attending a public distribution programme at the Tarun Sangha Club Ground. 

The following day, Banerjee will depart for Uttarkanya in Siliguri and on December 12, Banerjee will be attending a public distribution programme at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri.
