
Mamata Banerjee warns against land scams, announces projects for north Bengal

ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, 12 DECEMBER 2023 : West
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee
on Tuesday announced a slew of projects
and distributed cheques and cycles to
students and other beneficiaries in a
programme held at Siliguri's
Kanchenjunga Stadium.
She spoke on the benefits of various
projects launched by the State
Government, including Ruposhree, Laxmi
Bhandar, Credit Card for farmers and
many more.
She asked officials of concerned
government departments to be alert
against any scams related to land and
warned that no one would be spare if
found involved into any kind of lands
scams.
“I hear that some BLROs are
indulging in corrupt land lease practices
in association with unscrupulous
elements. I have asked the Principal
Secretary to take strict action against
them,” she said.
“No public servant
involved in any corruption will be spared.
Strict action must be taken against them.”
It may be mentioned that there has
latgely been complained of harassment of
beneficiaries of land documents which the
State Government is currently
distributing.
The BLROs handle disputes
relating to land documents.
A day earlier 70 projects worth around
Rs 93 crore for Alipurduar district in the
region were announced on Monday. The
Chief Minister said that investments
amounting to Rs 24,000 crore would take
place in north Bengal.
Last week, 59
projects with a worth of around Rs 271
crore were also inaugurated for the
Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will
meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
December 20 to discuss various Central
projects and allocation of due funds. She is
scheduled to reach New Delhi on
December 17.
