Mamata, Abhisek to attend marriage ceremony of family member Abesh at Kurseong

Mamata also to address a rally and hold administrative meeting

EOI, DARJEELING, DEC 4, 2023 : Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee arrived in Kurseong today to attend the marriage of his cousin Abesh Banerjee which will take place in the hill town on December 7.

Abesh is getting married to a girl from Kurseong and the marriage ceremony will also be attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is scheduled to arrive there on December 6 to attend her nephew’s wedding.“ 

Abhishek has come here to attend the marriage which is their family function. The chief minister is scheduled to arrive in Kurseong on December 6 and attend the wedding ceremony the next day. She will also be addressing the public meeting at the Monteviot ground at after the marriage ceremony is over,” said the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) president, Anit Thapa. 

A grand welcome was given to the TMC general secretary at Kurseong today by the BGPM supporters. 

Sources said Abhishek has come early probably to oversee the marriage preparations of his cousin which will take place in the community hall at Naya Baazar which has already been booked for December 6 and 7 for the marriage." 

The marriage rituals will be held according to Nepali customs on December 6 and the reception will be held on December 16," the source said. 

Mamata’s nephew Abesh is the son of her brother Kartik Banerjee who is also a TMC leader. He is getting married to Deeksha Katwal, the daughter of Kurseong resident Suren Katwal who worked in the municipality department and lives at Naya Baazar. 

Deeksha is the elder daughter of Suren and studied in Sunshine School there till class three and finished her class 10 from Dowhill School in Kurseong. 

She completed her 11 and 12 from St. Joseph’s School at Matigara in Siliguri following which she completed her MBBS in2020 from KPC Medical College in Kolkata. 

On the other hand, Abesh is also a doctor by profession.
Sources maintain that Mamata is likely to address a rally at Monteviot Ground on December 8 and she is with her also likely to hold an administrative meeting in Siliguri during her visit to the north Bengal region. 

Abhishek will be halting at the Taj Chia Kutir hotel in Makaibari where other high-profile guests that will be attending the marriage will also be staying.
