Binoy Tamang appointed WBPCC general secretary in charge of hills

Raises issue of justice for people of the region 

EOI, KOLKATA, DECEMBER 19, 2023 : The West Bengal Pradesh Congress has appointed former Chairman of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Binoy Tamang as its general secretary, and given him the responsibility of the party's organisation in the Darjeeling hills. 

In a statement on Monday, the WBPCC said that PCC president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had appointed Binoy Tamang as the general secretary in charge of hills on an ad-hoc basis with immediate effect. Thanking the leadership, Binoy Tamang in a statement on Tuesday urged party workers to forget their differences and work unitedly to strengthen the organisation. 

"I am hopeful that the Congress will be revived in northern Bengal and other parts of the state. I request all my Congress friends to forget their differences and disagreements, and unite to make the party stable and strong," he said. 

He said during his recent four-day visit to Delhi he had met the Congress leadership at the national level. There were several rounds of discussions on regional and national issues of the Gorkha people. 

In his visit to Delhi at the end of last May, he had mentioned some of the issues in writing to All India Congress Committee leaders. During the recent visit, he submitted a fresh memorandum. 

“Now the people of our regions as a whole should get constitutional, political, parliamentary and fundamental justice,” he said. 

“We should not be subjected to constitutional, political and parliamentary exploitation any more.” He said he was ready to share the issues which he had raised in the memorandum with all the regional political parties, non- political organizations and intellectuals, including Gorkha organizations of other states, to bring them on a common platform. 

Binoy Tamang, originally belonging to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, was with the Trinamool Congress for some time before joining Congress lately.
