EOI, PAKYONG, OCTOBER 31, 2023 : The Pakyong District Urban Development Department has successfully cleared the drainage towards river Teesta, and 75 percent of the outlets have been cleaned. Extensive manual excavation work is underway in areas impassable by machines in the IBM area, with a large number of labourers engaged to this task.
The District Roads and Bridges Department has entirely restored alleyways, significantly enhancing accessibility to households to inaccessible areas. In areas still inaccessible to machinery, manpower has been engaged in clearance of debris. Department officials have reported the completion of alleyway restoration in the IBM and Golitar areas.
Also restoration work for the clearance of sludge removal at ATTC Bardang has also commenced at full pace. The PHE Department is providing safe potable water to the residents of IBM, Rangpo through temporary water connections with HDPE pipelines of 15 mm diameter.
To prevent frequent pipeline damage and water supply disruptions, the department is passing the pipeline overhead through buildings, trees, and poles. Three public hydrants are already providing water to the affected area, and the department is actively restoring other damaged hydrants in the area.
The Power Department has provided service connections to people in the IBM area, utilizing LT cables of various sizes, achieving an 80 percent completion rate through the use of 500 KVA and 315 KVA transformers.
They have also erected 20, 11-metre poles in the Mamring-Mining area, with 12 of them strengthened with concrete for stability. At Majitar School and IOCL Bageykhola, they have installed 11-metre poles, 29 in number. In the IBM belt area of Rangpo, a total of 48 LT poles have been installed.
The Health Department has continued sanitization and fogging work around the IBM area. They have also provided information, education, and communication on dengue and typhoid. District Collector of Pakyong Tashi Chopel on Monday convened a meeting to discuss the restoration work after the flood.
