No Christmas celebration in Sikkim, churches plan ‘Prayer Summit’

SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, GANGTOK, NOVEMBER 29, 2023 :  All churches in Sikkim together will organise a mega ‘Prayer Summit’ on December 22nd instead of celebrating Christmas, keeping the recent Glacier Lake Outburst Flood devastation in mind.
The Summit is expected to attract nearly 100,000 people. President of the Organising Committee, Elder PW Lepcha said on Wednesday: "Keeping the recent devastation in mind due to GLOF we have decided not to celebrate the Christmas instead we are organising a mega Prayer Summit on December 22 at Paljor stadium.
We were already given a green signal by CM P S Tamang and this time we are organising this summit, with all the churches in Sikkim coming together.”
Healer and preacher Paul Dinakaran would give his talk on December 22 and there would be two bike rallies to spread awareness on the same.
"Not only from Sikkim but believers from neighboring Darjeeling, Kalimpong and other states are also coming to the mega prayer Summit and we are expecting a gathering of more than 100,000 people.” Lepcha requested the government to declare this kind of event a calendar event every year.
It was jointly addressed by the General Secretary Organising Committee, Andrew Chettri, Mahendra Sewa, Publicity Secretary, Central Committee of the Celebration Committee, Stefan Karki, Program Coordinator.
