NH 10 still closed to heavy vehicles at Likhuvir

Yowan Mothay, EOI, KALIMPONG, OCTOBER 28, 2023 : Most of the parts of the National Highway 10 damaged by the devastating flood of October 4 has been reconstructed, but heavy vehicles, including public transport, trucks and oil tankers, are still not being allowed to run through the Likhuvir stretch as it has taken time to rebuild the road.
Only small vehicles are allowed to ply on the stretch. As a result of the flooded Teesta dragging the road, in various places the National Highway did not exist at all. Keeping in mind the safety of passengers, buses are not being allowed to use the Likhuvir stretch of the road.
This is leading to inconvenience of commuters. Most of the passengers bound for Sikkim and Kalimjpong from the Baghpul, Kalijhora, Lohapul, Birik Danda and Rambhi Bazar areas have no way to travel to their destinations.
Small vehicles which run from Siliguri and Kalimpong are booked to capacity and cannot accommodate passengers in the middle of the way.
There is a demand that buses be allowed to use the road.
