KalimNews and agencies, Imphal, 27 October 2023 : In a recent event held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Imphal, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, as the chief guest, oversaw the distribution of benefits under the Special Scheme for Education of Children at Relief Camps for Labour Card Holders. Organized by the Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, this program aimed to provide support to labor card holders who are currently residing in various relief camps.
During the event, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh handed out reconstructed labor cards and financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to the eligible beneficiaries under this scheme. He acknowledged the hardships faced by many people due to the ongoing conflict in the state, emphasizing that it serves as a wake-up call for the people of Manipur.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the return of displaced individuals to their original places of settlement, with efforts from various government departments to assist them in finding suitable livelihood activities. Additionally, he mentioned plans to provide blankets to relief camps in preparation for the upcoming winter season.
In response to the agricultural challenges caused by the conflict, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh disclosed that the Home Ministry, Government of India, had sanctioned Rs. 38.6 crore to compensate farmers whose lands could not be cultivated. Deputy Commissioners would conduct surveys to determine the extent of this support.
Regarding education, the Chief Minister reported that a significant number of students from valley area relief camps had been successfully admitted to nearby schools, but there was a lower enrollment rate for those in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Tengnoupal districts.
Furthermore, he mentioned the relocation of approximately 3,000 families from relief camps to newly constructed prefabricated houses, with financial assistance from the Central Government for those whose homes were destroyed. This support would be provided in two to three installments through the respective Deputy Commissioners, and the process was already underway.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh assured that the government was committed to assisting the affected people, and the event was attended by various dignitaries, including ministers, MLAs, and government officials, as well as labor card holders from different relief camps.
