TT Correspondent, Jalpaiguri, 20.09.23 : A tea factory worker died while he had a quarrel with some people while consuming alcohol near Jalpaiguri on Monday night.
Subrata Mondal, 50, was a worker at a tea factory in Rahut Bagan.
During the altercation, sources said, one person shoved Mondal who fell to the ground and suffered serious injuries.
Mondal was rushed to the super-speciality hospital in Jalpaiguri where he later died.
Kotwali police visited the spot and started an investigation. One person has been detained.
Fire at building
A fire broke out on the second floor of a residential building at Dabgram in ward 23 of
Siliguri around 10am on Tuesday.
A fire engine from the Siliguri fire station doused the flames in one hour. Later, mayor Gautam Deb also visited the location.
An electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused the blaze. The loss from the fire is yet to be ascertained.
