Unless the PM speaks, GJM will take Gorkhaland issue to Delhi after Aug 15, says Bimal Gurung
Don't Miss
PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, 2 AUGUST 2023 : Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung on Wednesday headed for New Delhi to raise questions on separate state and permanent political solution for the hills of Darjeeling before the BJP-ruled Centre.
Before leaving for New Delhi Gurung told reporters at Bagdogra airport that he was going to take part in the ‘dharna’ programme at Jantar Mantar and ask questions to BJP regarding their election manifesto of permanent political solution and their stand on a separate state.
Gurung who was accompanied by general secretary of GJM Roshan Giri will be attending the ‘dharna’ which will be held from August 4 to 6 organized by the women’s wing of GJM, Nari Morcha.
He also said that his close aides and followers from Dehradun and Roorkee would join in the three-day-long ‘dharna.’ Gurung also said that he would decide after August 15 the strategy of the party regarding the Gorkhaland movement and other issues.
He said: “I am going to raise questions on the permanent political solution assured by the BJP before the last election to the people of the hills, Terai and Dooars, and also the points included in the election manifesto of the BJP.
I am also going to send a message to the nation on their assurances. The time has come to prepare for a new solution. This time it’s not like 2009, 2014 and 2019 elections where the BJP won elections only because of our alliances. BJP will have to come open about its stand on a separate Gorkhaland state.
We will wait till August 15 to see whether the Prime Minister gives any specific message on this Gorkhaland issue. If there is no such mention, we will be forced to take our movement in demand of the separate state to the national capital.”
