Trinamool accuses BJP of fanning ‘flames of hatred’ against minorities

MP | 13 Aug 2023 | Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “fanning the flames of hatred against minority communities.”
In the wake of an alleged silence and absence of condemnation of the violence which prevailed in Manipur and Haryana, the ruling party in Bengal has criticised PM Modi for looking the other way at a time when parts of the country continue to burn in the fire of hatred.
TMC leaders are of the opinion that the incumbent Prime Minister has been behaving as if these incidents of violence are trivial matters. The party accused the BJP of constantly trying to put a wedge between communities and fanning hatred to use the polarisation to its advantage in the elections.
The party wrote on its social media handle: “As the death toll in Manipur inches closer to the grim mark of 200 and communal violence tightens its grip on Nuh, Palwal, and Gurgaon, it becomes increasingly evident that PM Narendra Modi has, once again, resorted to the divisive playbook that he knows all too well.”
Further, it wrote: “Fanning the flames of hatred against minority communities. His disturbingly steadfast refusal to condemn these acts of violence and his chilling silence in the face of communal and ethnic tensions tearing apart our nation is nothing short of a dereliction of leadership.”
Senior leaders of the party pointed out how a no-confidence motion had to be brought about to bring the PM to the Parliament and “force” him to talk about the Manipur situation. “PM Modi refused to talk about anything substantial and relevant on the Manipur issue and instead chose to resort to charades inside the Parliament and stuck to his barbs against the Opposition parties,” said a TMC leader.
Recently, as a mark of protest against the violence in Manipur, State TMC Jai Hind Vahini carried out a protest march in the city. Senior leaders such as Firhad Hakim said: “What is happening in Manipur is the result of BJP’s divisive politics which began from Gujarat where a rift was created between Hindus and Muslims resulting in the death of 2000 people.”
Meanwhile, TMC also alleged zero safety of women in the states ruled by a BJP government. It took to social media and wrote: “Safety in BJP states is merely a hoax! @BJP4India continues with its blame game and pointing fingers at other states when they are ineffectual in protecting the women of the BJP ruling states itself.”
It further wrote: “According to the NCRB reports UP and MP in the top three states with maximum rape cases. Assam has the highest rate of crime against women in India for the 5th consecutive year. Zero empathy towards the female wrestlers facing harassment.
No action against the release of Bilkis Bano rapists. From 2016, 41000 women went missing in Gujarat PM @narendramodi and @JPNadda how will you justify the escalating devious conspiracies and crimes against women in BJP ruling states?”
