Representatives of Council of Teachers’ Association meets Governor

KalimNews, Imphal, 9 August 2023 : Representatives of Council of Teachers’ Association (COTA) called on Hon’ble Governor Miss Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and requested to arrange for conducting regular classes from Class I to XII to 28 schools which are currently being used as relief camps in nine districts of the State. The team submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging that appropriate arrangement for shifting the internally displaced people (IDPs) from these schools should be made so that normal classes can be started in these 28 schools. 

The memorandum also mentioned the incident of kidnapping of two students recently as heinous crime and condemned the act stating that targeting students in these situations should be stopped immediately. Governor assured them that proper arrangement will be made in this regard and asked them to meet Chief Secretary and Commissioner (Education).

Representatives of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant also called on Governor and requested to supply alternate crop seeds stating that paddy cultivation in the State is failed by 30% due to scanty rainfall. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, they said, government should supply alternate crops in Kharib and Rabi season to the farmers to makeup the food scarcity in the State. 

They also requested to supply electric water pump instead of petrol and diesel pumps to the farmers to fight the water crisis. Governor assured to extend all possible assistance from her office and further asked them to go to the peripheral areas and talk to farmers where cultivation cannot be taken up due to the unrest and to put up their concerns in future. 

Women leaders of Committee on Mass Protest Against Assam Rifles called on Governor and submitted a memorandum through her to the Prime Minister. The memorandum demands for removal of Assam Rifles (AR) from the entire State of Manipur and to take action against central forces personnel who indulged in excessive atrocities towards Meira Paibis of Manipur. 

They demanded for deployment of State forces by imposing uniform laws of the land throughout the State of Manipur, especially to the affected areas such as Moreh, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi etc.
