Proposal submitted to Centre for alternative alignment of National Highway for protection of Sirijunga Falls and the Holy Cave: Golay

IPR (Sikkim), SORENG, AUGUST 23, 2023 : Attending the 43rd Foundation Day of Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbho (Sirijunga Limboo Cultural Society) at the Limboo Cultural Centre located at Tharpu in the Soreng district on Wednesday, Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang spoke on the recently announced policy of sabbatical leave for all employees. 
This, he said, would provide a platform to those employees who wanted to enhance their career prospects. He also highlighted the Shravan Kumar Puraskar for deserving children of ‘Chalaks’ and the ‘Chalak Welfare Board and said such benefits were meant, especially for the marginalized section of the society. 
He said that Sikkim today was bonded by common ideologies of unity and respect among all communities. He urged all communities to strive towards conserving the aged-old traditions and take pride in the unique heritage of Sikkim. 
Likewise, he said that the Government has always prioritized its people and their necessities. Thus equal and rightful opportunities have been made available for all. In his address, the Chief Minister informed about the proposal which had been submitted to the Centre, requesting for an alternative alignment of National Highway to preserve the sanctity of the Sirijunga Falls and the Holy Cave. 
He also spoke about the Government’s intention of constructing Limboo Bhawan in Gangtok. He said the State Government had been working towards improving road connectivity and easier accessibility to far off places. He announced the State Government had decided to launch an award programme of Rs 50,000 each to acknowledge the hard work of road labourers in maintaining the cleanliness and better condition of the state-roads.
The criteria for selecting the recipients would include factors such as road cleanliness, consistency in maintenance, dedication to duty, and innovations in road upkeep and beautification. The award would be handed over on the Labour Day celebration.
