Manipur violence: Status Quo on Burial of dead litigation: There will be no burial in the disputed land

KalimNews, Imphal, 3rd August 2023 : Law & Legislative Affairs Minister, Shri Th. Basantakumar Singh while briefing the media today at the Auditorium of DIPR, Manipur informed that The Hon’ble High Court of Manipur passed an order in connection with Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 33 of 2023 (International Meeteis Forum Vs State of Manipur & ors) today. 
The order has directed the State Government and Central Government and the law enforcing agencies/personnel as well as the public belonging to both the communities to maintain status quo ante of the land in question in the next date. The court has directed the Central and State Governments to take appropriate effective steps to control law and order problem in and around of the land in question.
Further, the court has directed the Central and State Governments with respondents No. 11 & 12 and any aggrieved parties to make an effort to make amicable settlement in this matter. The private respondents and all the representatives of the Kuki-Zo community are also given liberty to apply to the official respondents for allotment of land for the purpose of burial within a period of one week.  
During the press briefing, Minister Shri Th. Basantakumar highlighted content of a letter sent by Union Minister of State, Home Affairs, Government of India, Shri Nityanand Rai which appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and communal harmony. The Government of India also seized of the issue of last rites of the mortal remains of those killed in the ethnic violence in Manipur and assured that it will spare no effort to resolve the issue amicably to the utmost satisfaction of all parties within a period of seven days. 
Shri Th. Basantakumar also appealed all not to rely on rumours but to go for authentic information. Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister (IPR), Manipur accompanied the Minister (Education) during the press briefing.
