Govt blames Opposition for Assembly deadlock
DIPR, Imphal, 29 August 2023 : The Government has charged the Opposition with disrupting the Manipur Legislative Assembly session held on Tuesday.
In a press conference conducted at the auditorium of DIPR, a ministerial team led by Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam labelled the charges against the Opposition.
During the press briefing, Law and Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar said that as per the Rule No. 271 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the order of business of the day, which had been decided by the Business Advisory Committee, can be changed orally by the leader of the House.
He expressed that due to the disturbances of the Opposition during the session, important and missing issues of the state could not be discussed in the Assembly.
Basanta Kumar Singh informed that before the Speaker of the House could say anything, all the Opposition members stood up and created chaos with noise.
He said that due to the noise, the Speaker had no choice but to adjourn the House so that they can go back, rethink and comeback and take up the matter in a civilised way. However, once again the House resumed after half an hour, the congress MLAs did not allow to discuss the important issues of the day, he added.
Minister Basantakumar also maintained that even the Opposition in the Parliament also disrupted the sitting during the recent session. The Opposition in the Parliament wanted to bring President’s Rule in the State. They also want to divide Manipur, he alleged.
IPR Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, MLAs Kh. Joykisan, Kh. Ibomcha and Th. Shanti Singh were also present during the press briefing.
