Darjeeling resident writes letter to PM demanding Gorkhaland
Don't Miss
SNS, SILIGURI, 3 AUGUST 2023 : At a time when Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) chief Bimal Gurung is preparing to stage demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from tomorrow, demanding 'permanent political solution' for the Hill, Terai and Dooars region, a Kurseong resident, Ram Krishna Sharma has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland.
Mr Sharma has sent his letter to PM, through Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, requesting him to make an important announcement acknowledged the aspirations of the Indian Gorkhas on 15 August this year.
"We are eagerly waiting for your speech on 15 August 2023. We hope that you must address the long standing demand of Indian Gorkhas, particularly the aspirations for a separate state of Gorkhaland," Mr Sharma wrote.
He also added: "The demand for Gorkhaland is not new, it has been a long standing dream of Indian Gorkhas, who have been demanding socio-economic development, political representation and cultural preservation.
We believe that the formation of a separate state of Gorkhaland, comprising Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Terai and Dooars would not only address these aspirations but also contribute to overall progress and harmony of the region."
"We are confident that you will make an important announcement on Independence Day acknowledging the aspirations of Indian Gorkhas," he wrote.
