Dev Raj, TT, Patna, 20.08.23 : Bihar police on Saturday arrested four persons in connection with the murder of journalist Vimal Kumar Yadav on Friday.

The action was taken on the basis of the statements of the members of the deceased’s family. Several police teams conducted raids on the basis of intelligence and technical inputs to nab the accused.

The arrested persons are Vipin Yadav, Bhavesh Yadav, Ashish Yadav and Umesh Yadav.

“Vimal’s father Harendra Prasad Singh accused eight persons, of whom we arrested four till now. Two other accused — Rupesh Yadav and Kranti Yadav — are already in judicial custody. We will move to take them on remand for questioning. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining two,” Araria superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Singh said.

Four armed men had allegedly knocked on the door of Vimal’s house at Raniganj early on Friday morning and shot him in the chest when he came out.

Vimal’s elder brother was murdered in 2019. Vimal was the only witness in the case.

Jharia fire-hit families to be shifted in groups

Dhanbad: People residing in the danger zones of Jharia mines fire in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district will be shifted to safer places in groups on a weekly basis, an official said on Saturday.

The Dhanbad administration has decided to shift 10-15 families from the danger zones every week.

Dhanbad deputy commissioner Barun Ranja, who is also the managing director of Jharia Rehabilitation Development Authority (JRDA), directed the officials to prepare an action plan so that residents of Jharia fire zones could be shifted to safer places on a weekly basis.

“Issue notices to families who refuse to move to safer places. Also, ensure that no new construction or encroachment takes place in danger zones once they are shifted,” Ranja directed officials at the review meeting of the JRDA.

The fire zones turn dangerous during monsoon. On the night of August 14, a father and his two sons fell in a five-metre-deep pit following subsidence in fire-affected Jogta-11 in Sizua area of the district. They were, however, rescued by neighbours.
