Another minor raped : Naxalbari tense after rape of tribal girl

PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, NAXALBARI, AUGUST 29, 2023 : Naxalbari was tense throughout the day on Tuesday after hundreds of Adivasi community people protested against the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl.
A tribal girl who was returning home
from her friend's house in Naxalbari was
allegedly raped on Monday night. Soon
after the local residents caught the accused
and handed him over to the Naxalbari
police.
According to eyewitnesses the
accused was in a
drunken state.
On Tuesday, the
victim filed a complaint
at the police station
demanding strict
punishment of the
accused. Later, the local
residents and members
of the tribal community
gheraoed the Naxalbari
police station, protesting
against the incident.
Some of them also
entered the police
station, shouting slogans. Senior police
officials brought the situation under control.
Leaders of the BJP and the CPI (M) also
reached Naxalbari police station. Chairman
of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Arun
Ghosh, demanded strict punishment of the
accused.
