
Manipur: State police in action to curb violence and maintain peace: Arms seized, 9 arrested

KalimNews, Imphal, 16th July, 2023 : Situation is tense in some places of Manipur with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob during the last 24 (twenty-four) hrs.
During the last 24(twenty-four) hours, State Police and Central forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts. A total of 7 (seven) bunkers were destroyed in the operations.
During the last 24(twenty-four) hours, intermittent firing by armed miscreants were reported at few places. Police and Central forces launched operation in Phaileng area, Kangpokpi District and 2 (two) arms and 9 (nine) ammunitions were recovered and the miscreants were repelled.
9 (nine) persons including 5 (five) women have been arrested by Imphal East District Police in connection with the incident in which one woman was found dead at Keibi Heikakmapal Maning Ching on 15.07.2023. 2 (two) arms, 5 (five) ammunitions and 1 (one) car was seized in connection with the case.
19 (nineteen) persons have been arrested/apprehended by Imphal West District Police in connection with the torching of 3 (three) empty trucks at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai Lampak, Imphal West on 15.07.2023. They were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West today (16.07.2023) and 17 (seventeen) were remanded in police custody for 4 (four) days and 2 (two) were referred to Juvenile Justice Board. Raids are continuing to arrest other accused persons.
In the search operation conducted by District Police Thoubal yesterday (15.07.2023) in Heirok area, 12 (twelve) magazines and 25 (twenty-five) ammunitions were recovered.
A total of 124 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police had detained 586 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.
Movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37 and NH-2. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
Appeal is made to general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
