Govt constructing Elevated corridor on NH 10 from Sevoke Army Cantonment to Sevoke Ghat

Yowan Mothay, EOI, Kalimpong, 25 July 2023 : The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is going to construct an elevated corridor on the NH-10 stretch from Sevoke Army Cantonment to Sevoke Ghat, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today said. According to Bista, he had requested Minister for MoRTH Nitin Gadkari to expedite the projects concerning upgradation of National Highway10, which is a lifeline for the border regions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Dooars and Sikkim. 

He also informed him about the problems faced by the people who travel using NH10, and its significance from the National Security perspective.

In a letter received from Gadkari, he has mentioned that "out of 120 km of NH-10, 15-kms have already been developed to Two Lane with paved shoulders/Four Lane. Four/Six laning of another 11.77 km (Balason - Sevoke Army Cantonment section) is in progress.

"Further, he has stated that the "Tender for engagement of Consultant for preparation of DPR for construction of elevated corridor from Sevoke Army Cantonment to Sevoke ghat has already been invited and evaluation of bids under progress." 

Those travelling to Siliguri from Kalimpong, or Sikkim have to face jam and closure of road at the Railway crossing point in Sevoke. 

With the construction of this elevated corridor, the current problem of railway crossing at Sevoke will also be resolved. This will not only ease the traffic along this critical stretch, but will also ensure smooth travelling experiences for locals and tourists alike. Gadkari has mentioned,

"Further DPR for widening of Sevoke-Rangpo- Ranipool stretch isin progress with special emphasis on landslide mitigation, improvement of sinking zone, removal of black spots etc. Besides various maintenance works and slope restoration work/landslide mitigation work have also been taken up in Sevoke-Rangpo section".

The upgradation of NH10, completion of NH717A through Kalimpong and, the completion of the Sevoke-Rangpo Rail Line will give a huge boost to tourism, trade, commerce, businesses, travel for students, medical patients, farmers and all others in the region, Bista Said. 

He added, I am most grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modiand MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari for prioritizing the development of Highway Infrastructure across our Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars and Sikkim region.
