3 Meitei village guard killed by Kuki Militants, 2 village guards injured: CM Biren personally took stock of the situation by visiting the attacked site.

KalimNews, Imphal, 2 July 2023: Three Meitei village guards were killed in a fresh attack by Kuki armed militants at Khoijumantabi village in Bishnupur district yesterday midnight. 

Gunshots were heard till afternoon today as villagers continued to chase the militants. 

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh personally took stock of the situation by visiting the attacked site at around noon today. When the Chief Minister was inspecting the attacked site at around 2 pm interestingly, gunshots were heard even at that time. 

The three village guards killed in the Kuki militant attacked have been identified as Ningombam Ibomcha age 34 , Naorem Rajkumar age 26 , and Haobam Ibocha age 41 years. All the deceased are from Khoijumantabitabi village under the Borayangbi Gram Panchayat, Bishnupur district. 

Two other village guards identified as Khudrakpam Manglemjao and Naorem Amarjit of the same village were reported injured in the attack by the armed Kuki militants. 

After hearing the report of the death of three Meitei village guards, villagers of Khoijumantabi and the adjoining area thronged in large numbers with licensed arms and other deadly weapons at around 3 a.m. today. 

The irate mob retaliated against the heavily Kuki-armed militants, and firing between the two lasted till evening today. The irate mob also burned down houses in a village where the armed militants took shelter. 

Sources said that the village guards, killed by the Kuki militants were stationed at Khoijumantabi hill which is located in the periphery between Bishnupur district and Churachandpur district. 

Due to the fear of attack, Chief Minister Biren Singh rushed to Khoijumantabi village with other top government officials. 

On June 30, one merchant navy officer, Waikhom Nilakamal @ Boicha Meitei age 35 son of W. Iboyaima of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, was killed by Kuki militants on Thursday at Koutruk Senjam Chirang of Imphal West district. 

In the meantime, Manipur police control room stated that during the last 24 hours, three arms and six bombs have been recovered. 

In the Jiribam district, the CRPF and Jiribam district police conducted frisking and checking at Uchathol Village. 

During frisking and checking, one person was detained, and some explosives suspected to be ammonium nitrate fuel oil, five meter and 79 cms cordex wire and one motorcycle were seized from his possession. 

Manipur police appealed to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosive to the police or security force.
