Hit by car, tourist from Maharashtra falls to her death at Rimbi waterfalls

SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI,  GANGTOK,  22 JUNE 2023 : In a heart-wrenching incident, a 51-year -old tourist from Maharashtra fell to her death on Thursday after she was hit by a vehicle near Rimbi waterfalls at Geyzing in west Sikkim. 
She was identified as Kavita Gadgil (49),  while her husband Rajiv Gadgil sustained injuries and was referred to a private health facility at Matigara in Siliguri.
According to the officials, the couple accompanied by their two sons and a daughter in-law reached Pelling on Wednesday. They were on sightseeing on Thursday. 
“The Maharashtrian family went to Rimbi waterfall today. They stopped at a canteen for tea near Rimbi waterfall. Suddenly at around 12:35 pm a vehicle came and hit the couple. The couple along with the vehicle fell 70 feet in the gorge.
The couple was rescued and rushed to Geyzing district hospital , where Kavita was declared dead. Her husband Rajiv was shifted to a private health facility in Siliguri. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family members after the post-mortem. The family has left for Siliguri”, said an official.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as Passang Norbu Bhutia. He was accompanied by his son and sister in the vehicle. None of them was injured.
