Heavy rains pose problems for Sevoke –Rangpo Railway Project

Yowan Mothay, EOI, Kalimpong, 19 June 2023 : It has been raining incessantly for a few days in the National Highway-10area. This rain has replenished the streams and springs that had been gradually drying up, and now it is seen that there is no problem with drinking water.
But the work of the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Project has been partially affected due to the continuous rain; especially on the banks of river Riang where some work related to the project is being carried out.
The river is flooded and there is no situation to cross the river. Batching plants and crusher machines of two companies established in Rongchong village are located next to the river. It is feared that the water level of the Riang may rise further and enter the project area. In the river Seti jhoda, too, there is a similar problem. It is feared that the project may be damaged if the river rises.
The companies engaged in the construction have, however, prepared for the possibility of the level of the river.
