Deceased TMC worker had dual citizenship: Nishit
SNS, SILIGURI, 28 JUNE 2023 : Union minister of state for home affairs Nishit Pramanik today claimed that Babu Haque, who was murdered at Jari Dharla village, a border village near Gitaldaha in Cooch Behar yesterday, was an international criminal and involved in Indo Bangladesh border smuggling and terrorism.
At a time when the Trinamul Congress leadership had been claiming Haque was party worker, the Union minister claimed today Claque was a Bangladeshi resident and he had managed Indian voter card to continue smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border staying in the Indian part.
Showcasing some documents, Mr Pramanik today claimed Claque, who was murdered yesterday, had dual citizenship.
"According to the Indian voter card he is Bahu Rahaman. The same person is Md Abdul Rahman as per records of Bangladeshi voter card. His father, mother and wife live in Bangladesh," minister Pramanik claimed.
"After the murder of the person Trinamul Congress claimed him as its party worker. My question is how can Trinamool Congress leaders claim a Bangladeshi as TMC party worker," Mr Pramanik added.
The minister also claimed that Rahaman was involved in border crime and he was involved in terrorist activities.
Notably, to take on the Trinamul Congress, the BJP released a video clip, in which Rahaman claimed he had dual citizenship.
But reacting to the Union minister's claim the north Bengal development minister Udayan Guho claimed Mr Pramanik should step down if the deceased is identified as a Bangladeshi citizen.
"If a Bangladesh national resides in India, who is supposed to take action? What were the central agencies, under the control of his department, doing," Mr Guho asked.
Political clash and violence continues unabated in Dinhata and Sitalkuchi areas of Cooch Behar district today.
