11 members of BGPM declared elected uncontested in Kalimpong


KalimNews, Kalimpong 20 June 2023: After the scrutiny, on the final day of withdrawal of candidature in the panchayat election a total of 40 Gram Panchayat (GP) candidates and 18 Panchayat Samity (PS) candidates out of 871 candidates for Gram Panchayat and 254 Panchyat Samity candidates respectively who filed nominations, withdrew their nominations. 
Of these 10 GP candidates and 1 PS candidate is declared elected uncontested.

Presently there are 814 GP candidates and 233 PS candidates contesting in the district of Kalimpong for the election of Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samity to be held on 8th July 2023.In the panchayat election going to be held after 23 years, the candidature of 2 for Panchayat Samity member and 7 for gram Panchayat member in the district of Kalimpong were rejected.  
All the 10 candidates for GP seats and 1 candidate for PS seat declared uncontested elected members are from Bharatiya Gorkha Prajantrik Morcha.
Kalimpong district has 42 GPs and 4 PSs with 281 seats in 260 consituencies. It has 76 seats in the 4 PSs, the total number of polling stations being 263 and the electors are 175932.
Now for rest of the seats of Gram Panchayat member 814 candidates are contesting while for Panchayat Samity 233 candidates are contesting. 
In Kalimpong I Block the number of contesting candidates for GP seats are All India Trinamool Congress (AITC)- 8, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 60, Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) -109 and Independents (Ind)- 159. In the Block of Lava the number of contesting candidates are BJP-34, BGPM-51 and Ind- 59. Pedong Block has BJP-13, BGPM-39, Ind-68. In Gorubathan block there are AITC-2,BJP-25, BGPM-74, Ind-113 candidates. The total being 814 and they are AITC-10, BJP-132, BGPM-273 and Ind-399. 
Similarly for the seats of Panchayat Samity in the diistrict, the total number of contestants is 233 and they are BJP-37, BGPM-73, Ind-123. In Kalimpong I PS the number of contestaing candidates are as follows, BJP-17, BGPM-30, Ind-50. In Lava it is BJP-9, BGPM-13, Ind-18 while in Pedong it is BJP-4, BGPM-10, Ind- 15 and in Gorubathan it is BJP-7, BGPM-20 and Ind-40. 
BGPM in a press release has stated that the 10 candidates are declared elected uncontested GP members and they are -Manu Rai of Bhalukhop I GP, Ong Tshering Lepcha of Teesta GP, Asha Thapa of Dr Graham's Homes GP, Nirmala Lepcha of Seokbir GP, Priscila Lepcha of Samalbong GP, Phul Tsh Lepcha of Nimbong GP (Pemling), Anju Bomjan of Kagay GP, Kishan Rai of Lingsekha GP, Tikaram Ghalay of Pokhrianong GP, Indramaya Rai of Todey Tangta GP and In the Seokbir Panchayat Samity seat Aruna Tamang is declared elected uncontested.
