Subhas Sarkar promises to take up with Mamata Banerjee issue of disruptions in NH 10

PRAKASH ADHIKARI, EOI, GANGTOK, 14 May 2023 : Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar on Sunday promised to take up personally with the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the West Bengal PWD Minister the issue of frequent disruptions in National Highway 10, the lone lifeline of Sikkim. 

He assured this shortly after addressing party workers at the BJP Town Unit in Gangtok. Sarkar is on a three-day visit to Sikkim to monitor the proper implementation of welfare schemes of the Centre in east Sikkim. 

He said the issue of a permanent campus of NIT Sikkim had been sorted. Only one percent of the issue was still left out and that would be addressed by the Sikkim Government. Sarkar said that he would visit the Pakyong District on Monday to review the progress in the implementation of welfare schemes of the Centre. 

He told newspersons that he had taken up the problem of drinking water crisis faced by the residents of Gangtok and would write to the concerned Ministry for necessary action. If the State Government would approach the Centre on this issue, he would definitely help them. 

Taking dig at the UPA government, he said that the road connectivity issues had been a landmark achievement of the nine years of the Modi government as compared to the nine years of the last UPA government. 

Answering questions on the state of the alliance between the BJP and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, he said the State Government was doing well, but there were lots of lacunas in the implementation of welfare schemes and other issues, for which the BJP was vocal and would remain vocal.
