Prashant Acharya, EOI, SILIGURI, MAY 17, 2023: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Wednesday met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and discussed important issues concerning the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, and other rail related matters in Darjeeling hills, Siliguri and the New Jalpaiguri region.
Ashwini who has personally visited Darjeeling hills and plains recently to take stock of the ongoing Sevoke-Rangpo Rail construction is abreast of the major issues from this region. The Minister is widely viewed as 'result oriented' and has ushered in the transformation and modernization of the Indian Railways towards a sustainable green transport system.
Bista said: “Under his leadership Indian Railways has become one of the fastest electrified railway systems in the world.
As of today over 14 States and Union Territories have achieved 100 percent electrification of all rail lines and overall 85 percent of tracks have been electrified. Our government has set an ambitious target of 2024 as being the year in which we shall achieve 100 percent electrification of all broad-gauge railway lines.
With the completion of Sevoke-Rangpo Rail line and upgradation of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the railways will become an integral part of the tourism and transportation in our region.
