One woman arrested with brown sugar and Marijuana

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 10 May 2023: Kalimpong Police has arrested one person from Murgihatta and seized 800 grams of Brown Sugar and Marijuana.

In pursuance of a secret information received by the Kalimpong Police, it conducted a raid at Murgihatta area, near Lower Crown lodge under Kalimpong Police Station on 9th May 2023 and arrested Sima Lepcha (42 yrs), wife of Ravi Shankar Prasad and resident of Murgihata. 

On search she was found to be in illegal possession of psychotropic substances in the nature of 800 gm of Brown Sugar and Marijuana at her residence. It is said that she was a drug peddlar and the local people made several objections to her to stop the sale. 

All the articles were properly seized & sealed and on 10th May, she was charged under  sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and produced before the District Court at Kalimpong.. 

Local residents alleged that members of the local Seva Samaj and others approached the police giving all details and raided the residential complex of the accused and arrested Sima and seized the drugs. People alleged that Seema and other persons are involved in the peddling of these substances since years and students of different schools in school uniform use to come in huge number to purchase them. There were also instances of thefts and other illegal activities too.
