NF Railway undertake track renewal works

SNS, SILIGURI. 27 MAY 2023 : With a view to maintaining railway tracks and keeping them in proper condition and providing a safe and comfortable journey to rail passengers, NF Railway has undertaken several track renewal works during the month of April this year, the NFR said today.

During the month of April, 15.25 Km of plain tracks have been deep screened by cleaning impervious layer of dust, sand and ashes from ballast, it said.

"Thorough Sleeper Renewal of 06.93 Track Kilometre has been done Thorough Turnout Renewals of 4.5 equivalent sets have been done during the month. Apart from that, six bridges have been rehabilitated and 393 signaling batteries of various capacities have been replaced over the NFR during the month. Maintenance of tracks at regular intervals have resulted in smooth operations of trains, thus providing better riding experience for passengers," the NFR said in a statement.

Moreover, 1665.75 km of track have been tested by the USFD (Ultra Sonic Flaw Detection) machine during the month of April. USFD technique is carried out to detect flaws like cracks and timely removal of defective rails for safety.

"The increased emphasis given on safety measures for railway tracks has led to safer running of trains with increased speed and better riding experience," said Sabyasachi De, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the NF Railway.
