TT, Siliguri, Alipurduar, 22.05.23: The Government Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force jointly busted a gang allegedly involved in luggage theft of train passengers, from Siliguri Junction on Saturday, and arrested six persons.
Those arrested are Haryana residents Vijayander, Rajbir, Anil Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Sandip and Satyaban.
They used to introduce themselves as defence or paramilitary personnel, mingle with passengers and flee with their luggage, sources said. The gang was reportedly operational for the past couple of months.
After multiple complaints from passengers, the RPF and GRP tracked the gang through CCTV footage from various stations. Finally, they nabbed the gang on Saturday at Siliguri Junction.
Betting arrests
Teams of Siliguri and Pradhannagar police stations under Siliguri Metropolitan Police jointly arrested three persons in Siliguri on Saturday for allegedly betting during the ongoing IPL. Mohit Agarwal of Sevoke Road, Akshay Borar of Rajasthan and Ramesh Naik of Jalpaiguri were arrested with cell phones, laptops and TV sets.
Held with gun
Suman Tamang, 33, of Jaigaon's Daragaon in Alipurduar, was arrested on Sunday with a 7mm pistol, live cartridges and a magazine.
