Bridge over Chamung river in Kalimpong opened to traffic

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, MAY 7, 2023: The newly constructed bridge over the Chamung river at Gitdabling Pochok has finally been formally inaugurated. The bridge was handed over to the people of Gitdabling by Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha on Sunday.
In the opening programme, MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha and JTI Vice President were mainly present. The concrete bridge over the Chamung river on the Khabarbe-Pochok road section near Gitdabling Khabarbe market became operational from Sunday.
The construction work of the concrete bridge was started on February 14, 2020, to take care of the problem of public transportation. This bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 9.65 crore. Addressing the inaugural ceremony,
Ruden Lepcha said the bridge would provide extensive facilities to the local people and strengthen the economic base of the people. The newly constructed bridge would act as a backbone as this road would connect many areas. Chemung River being the border of constituency nos 41 and 42, the connectivity of those people would increase due to the newly constructed bridge
