Two arrested in Siliguri for smuggling drugs in Sikkim government vehicle

PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, 28 APRIL 2023 : Two men from Sikkim were arrested in the Bhaktinagar Police Station area of Siliguri late on Thursday night for smuggling drugs in a cargo vehicle marked with the label of Sikkim Nationalized Transport.

The two men were posing as the driver and the helper of the vehicle. The police stopped the vehicle near a check post and after a search seized several bottles of cough syrup, injections and tablets loaded in cartons.

The two men failed to produce valid documents for the consignment. After a preliminary investigation, the police suspected that the two were government employees who had been smuggling drugs in government vehicles for along time.

The police were trying to ascertain in which department the arrested persons were working and if the seized vehicle was really a government vehicle or one with a fake sticker.
