SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, GANGTOK, APRIL 29, 2023 : Demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise with President of China Xi Jinping in the G20 summit the issue of Sino-Tibet conflict, the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet and elimination of Tibetan culture and identity and seeking support from international community to resolve the Sino - Tibet conflict, The Tibetan Youth Congress launched on Saturday a month-long "Tibet Matters March," coinciding with Tibetan Martyr's Day. The month-long march was flagged off from the state of Sikkim by State Forest Minister Karma Loday Bhutia.
The March will conclude at Tezpur in Assam; crossing West Bengal on the way.
Tibetan Youth Congress volunteers participated from across the Tibetan Youth Congress Regional Chapters in India and Nepal. Present during the March was local Tibetan Assembly member Zimba Phintso, lone participant from Nepal Tenzing Zamphel and six Tibetan organizations.
President, TYC Gonpo Dhundup said during the flag-off of the March: "We urge the G20 leaders to raise theissue of the Sino-Tibet conflict which plays a significant role in the growing tension between China and several countries in Southeast Asia and resolve the problem. It's high time, therefore, to talk about Tibet which significantly matters in promising and promoting permanent peace and security in Asia.
He also alleged under the massive surveillance system in China, the Chinese authorities were engaged in mass collection of DNA samples of Tibetans, including children as young as five years.
“We believe this is their newest attack on Tibetan identity, massive surveillance on individual privacies, and freedom of movement inside Tibet. Therefore, today the Tibetan Youth Congress urges the international community and theG20 leaders, in particular, to raise the Tibet issue with the Chinese leader.
