Don't Miss
PRAKASH ADHIKARI | EOI | GANGTOK | APRIL 9, 2023 : The attack on a Joint Action Council rally on Saturday is an alarming instance of violence perpetrated by the ruling party and points to the grim law and order situation in Sikkim, the Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum said in a Press release on Sunday.
The audacity and fearlessness with which the perpetrators attacked the office-bearer of a State-level organization and people assembled to protest against the imposition of infringement of the term ‘Sikkimese’ earned by sacrificing nationality in the middle of a busy town, in broad daylight, in front of hundreds of jawans and police officials, in the presence of media persons showed whose hands were behind the attackers.
“When you have the invisible hands of the ruling party, why would you fear the police, cameras, the media?” It was one in a series of attacks the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha was sponsoring to crush the voice of dissent and freedom of expression of the people.
“Such sponsored attacks by misusing the power to muffle the voice of the people have become the modus operandi of the SKM. Earlier too such attacks were perpetuated on ad hoc teachers, SPYF, Sikkim Suraksha Samiti and opposition parties. The Sikkim Police appear helpless in front of the perpetrators of the crime.”
