EOI, KOLKATA, APRIL 5/--/ Since the signing of a Memorandum of Settlement between the Centre, the Assam Government and different Bodo groups on January 27, 2020 to end the decades-old Bodo crisis, most of the clauses of the MoS have been implemented, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Ram has said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
A total of 1,615 cadres of militant groups have laid down arms and ammunition, a Bodo Kachari Welfare Council and a separate Directorate for Bodo Medium Schools have been set up. A Welfare of Bodoland Department has been set up to deal with issues relating to councils under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, including the Bodoland Territorial Council.
Clause 10.1 of the MoS provides for a Special Development Package of Rs 1,500 crore, with equal contributions from the Centre and the Assam Government, for undertaking specific projects. Among these are a Central University, a North-East Regional Institute of Medical Science and a National Institute of Technology.
A Joint Monitoring Committee comprising representatives of the Union Ministry, the Assam Government, the Bodoland Territorial Council and different Bodo organizations monitor the implementation of the MoS regularly.
