Man held for trying to traffic young girl from Geyzing to Siliguri

DICHEN ONGMU, EOI, GANGTOK, APRIL 15, 2023 : A man from the Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal, was stopped at the Melli checkpost on the Sikkim –West Bengal border on Friday while traveling to Siliguri with a young girl from the Geyzing District.
As per police source, The girl appeared to be unwell, so she was taken to Melli PHC for medical attention while the man was interrogated. During questioning, it was discovered that the man had taken the minor girl to Jorethang without the knowledge or consent of her legal guardian on the pretext of buying a phone.
He had intended to take her to Siliguri with criminal intentions, but the Melli checkpost staff intercepted them. With the vigilance of the police staff and cooperation from the vehicle driver, the girl was returned to her rightful guardian
