
In Darjeeling, Governor releases book on diplomat Shringla

MANAS R BANNERJEE, SNS, DARJEELING, 3 APRIL 2023 : West Bengal Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose today unveiled a book, "Not An Accidental Rise," a biography of diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla, amid a function at Raj Bhawan in Darjeeling.
The book written by Sikkim University Professor Dipmala Roka encapsulates the learnings of Mr Shringla, the Chief Coordinator of the G20 India Presidency and Indias former Foreign Secretary during his four-decade-long career in public service.
Addressing the function, Governor Bose said that

The Governor further spoke of IAS officials and the role of diplomats, as compared with others, including himself, to portray Mr Shringla as a successful diplomat.
"This motivational book should be useful to the youths of Bengal as well as the youths of India," Dr Bose added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rolar described Mr Shringla as an "innovative thinker and inspiring personality," following his dedication, hard working spirit and compassion in discharging h is duties for the country "As such it is Not An Accidental ..."she said.
"Writing this book was a team effort and I ant grateful to many people along the way for the support and encouragement," she added.
Dr Roka has written about Mr Shringla's early days and family, school and college life, early employment and civil service examination and joining of the Indian Foreign Service, activities in Thailand, Dhaka, Washington and then as Foreign Secretary and finally his thoughts on India's Foreign Policy.
On the other hand, Mr Shringla, addressing the occasion, said that after completion of 75 years of Independence, the coming25 years are very important in making India a world leader.
Describing India as a "productive nation," Mr Shringla emphasised on the role of the youths, the future of India, in making India a developed country by the year 2047.
Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Shringla said there are three "Ts"- Trade, Technology and Tourism--to achieve the goal.
According to him, G20 was "the largest international event, first time in India, and it should go down to the grassroots, even in schools to reach out to the people."
He further expressed optimism about Darjeeling and the young generation of Darjeeling and their contribution in the future for the country, at a time when Darjeeling held the G20 Tourism Working Group Meetings.
