BENGAL WEATHER ALERT 2023
The mercury has reached close to 40 degrees in many areas of the state of West Bengal. The Meteorological Department said that an increase of 2 to 4 degrees in temperature is possible in the next 3 days., At present, there is no chance of rain, due to which June-like heat is felt in April.
On the other hand, people in Kolkata were troubled by the hot air from early morning till late evening on Saturday also.
The Meteorological Department has predicted a rise in temperature. People had got a lot of relief from the relatively rains in March, but in the beginning of April itself, the heat has started wreaking havoc in Bengal. The Alipore Meteorological Department predicted a rise in temperature. There may be a rise of 2 to 4 degrees in the temperature in the next 3 days. Sanjib Bandyopadhyay, deputy director general of the Regional Meteorological Centre, said the dry heat can cause a lot of discomfort, including skin burns. In the last 2 days, the temperature of Dumdum or Howrah remained around 36.5 degree celsius.

Mercury will remain around 40 degrees
According to the department, the maximum temperature is expected to be 38 degree Celsius from Saturday to Sunday, 39 on 10 April, 40 on 11 April, 40 on 12 April and 41 degree Celsius on 13 April. On the other hand, the temperature will increase further in the western districts. Bankura’s temperature can reach 41 to 42 degrees. According to meteorologists, a temperature of 40 degrees is not uncommon. It has never been this warm in April since 2016.

Similar possibility till Bangla New Year
The Meteorological Department said that such uneasiness is likely to last till the Bangla New Year. March this year was the coldest in the last 23 years and April was just the opposite. Meteorologists say that the reason for this is that the western storms that are being formed are not very strong. The water vapour present there has also been absorbed by the warm air coming from the north-west. That’s why the situation is such that different districts of the state including Kolkata are engulfed in flames. Heat wave conditions are also likely at a few places in the western districts. South Bengal including Kolkata has not received rain since the beginning of April.
