Harsh Vardhan Shringla brings the world to Darjeeling

EOI, DARJEELING, APRIL 3, 2023: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose soft launched on Monday a book on former foreign secretary of India and currently chief coordinator of G20 event Harsh Vardhan Shringla on the sidelines of the Tourism Working Group (TWG) organized in Darjeeling. 

The book- Not an Accidental Rise- is a biography written by Dipmala Roka who is an assistant professor in the department of International Relations at Sikkim University, Gangtok. It recounts the life and trajectory of Shringla. The Governor said the book was motivational. It would be useful to the youths of the country. 

“The book will not only be useful to the youths of Bengal but also to the youths of the country, ” Bose said. The Governor urged that the lives of dedicated public servants such as Shringla, who hails from Darjeeling, would instill a sense of responsibility and desirable leadership qualities in the youth. 

“He (Shringla) was sent by Darjeeling to go and see the world. And now he is bringing the world to Darjeeling,” the Governor said. The author said the book was written to inspire everyone to believe in themselves because Shringla’s rise was not accidental. 

“It is not an accidental rise. It is the story of each promotion being built on the achievements of the last. It was sheer grit and determination,” said Roka. 

Shringla said the book was intended to reach out to the younger generation. “It is a stated objective of ours to become a developed country by the year 2047. It is the youths who are going to take us there,” he said. 

During the day, more than 130 delegates of the G20 reached Darjeeling for the conclusion of the TWG that started on April 1. The delegates included ambassadors of 10different countries. The delegates during their three days of tour took a joy ride on the toy train, plucked tea leaves at night, indulged in adventure tourism and participated in local cultural programs of the region and also attended a lunch hosted by the Governor of West Bengal.
