Doctor jumps from Coronation Bridge into river Teesta, missing
PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, APRIL 4, 2023: A doctor jumped into river Teesta from the Coronation Bridge in Sevoke late on Monday night. There was no trace of him till Tuesday evening.
The car used by the doctor was found in the Mongpong police outpost area under Kalimpong Police station, at one end of the Coronation Bridge.
Members of Teesta Rangeet Rescue Centre were informed by the Officer-in-charge of Rambi police station about the incident and then the rescue team started the search operation since Tuesday afternoon.
According to the information received from the members, the doctor parked his car, came walking and then jumped from the Coronation Bridge around 11:30 am on Monday.
According to sources, the doctor named Sourav Roy is a senior resident doctor of the Biochemistry Department of Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital.
Superintendent of Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital Dr. Kalyan Khan said: “It is a very sad incident. I do not understand why he jumped into the river. The doctor never seemed to be under much stress.
We are all shocked by this incident. It is known that the doctor's home is in Kolkata but he has been living in Siliguri with his wife and one child for along time. He also had bought a flat at Gokhale Road in Aurobindo Pally.
Meanwhile the rescue team has also been searching for the driver of the Army vehicle that fell in the river two days ago into river, also near Sevoke.
