Body of army truck driver found in Teesta

YAWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, APRIL 5, 2023 : The body of an army soldier who went missing in river Teesta last Saturday after an army truck met with an accident at Geil khola on National Highway 10 was found at 9:35 am on Wednesday. 
For the past five days, several government agencies as well as voluntary rescue centres were searching for the body of the soldier who was driving the vehicle. After the body was recovered from the river water, the police sent it to Kalimpong District Hospital for post-mortem. Later, the body was handed over to the army.
At 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, one of the vehicles in an army convoy met with an accident at Geil khola and plunged directly into river Teesta. Besides the driver, a sepoy, the vehicle was carrying a subedar who was rescued from the river. The driver went missing.
Agencies: A joint team of divers of Army, NDRF, TRRC and DMG WB Police found the body of the missing driver Rasangji Savaji Thakur (25) of village Silipur, Distt Mehsana, Gujarat was handed over to his family. 
Sepoy Thakur is survived by his wife & a nine months old son. Thakur had been driving in hilly areas for operational duties for the past 4 years now in Sikkim as well as previously in Jammu and Kashmir.  To ascertain the cause of accident, Police as well as Army inquiries is under p
