Bengal Safari Park animals get special care to beat the heat

Don't Miss

EOI, SILIGURI, APRIL 18, 2023 : The Bengal Safari Park authorities have taken special precautions so that the animals do not get sick in the intense heat. The animals at the Safari Park are facing many problems this summer. That is why a special diet has been arranged for them this summer.
The emphasis is on arranging enough water to drink. According to the Bengal Safari Park authorities, the swimming pool and ice bars had been arranged for Sheela and Vivan, the Royal Bengal Tiger couple along with their four cubs during the hot day. Ice had also been kept for leopards and bears. Sheela and Vivan were seen enjoying the cool while sitting inside the swimming pool. Caretakers also bathe them in cold water periodically.
Oral rehydrate solutions and ‘beet salts’ were being added to the drinking water of the herbivores. They were being served with drinking water twice a day. This step was taken after seeing that there could be the danger of the level of sodium in the body decreasing in intense heat. Herbivores were being given an increased fruit intake.
On the other hand, in the case of carnivorous animals such as tiger, leopard, crocodile, the amount of beef and goatmeat had been reduced and the amount of chicken meat had been increased. Bengal Safari Park Assistant Director Rahul Mukherjee said over the telephone: "his time the temperature is high. That's why special attention has been paid to ensure that the animals do not suffer any problem.
Water has been given in the pool, ice has been given. Also, a special diet chart is being followed with the advice  of the doctor."
